conversations with strangers

lately i've been toying with this idea that we can learn bigger things if we take bigger steps outside our comfort zone. i don't know, lately i've also been watching too much tv. this morning i wanted to drain out some of my thoughts so i walked to an old diner i used to frequent on the west side. it was packed with tourists swimming in an ocean of garble and clamor. the only open seat was next to an old heavyset man with a loud brooklyn accent who was intently reading three different newspapers while nursing his lumberjack platter and four slices of buttery toast.

i asked him what's new. he told me nothing is ever new, everything is the same thing with different people in different places.

you can only end an ending with a beginning

the funeral was yesterday. i couldn't go, but just the "f" word is one last poke in the gut. the final poke that will lightly linger in my mind like the last dusty breath of a sandstorm's end. the sun will continue to shine everyday like nature always promised but maybe now each time with a new unmistakable view-- to appreciate the people who make your days just that little bit easier, a bit more beautiful, or even give it the slightest bit of meaning... all because they simply existed at one point or another in your life.

fume fuel

the thing i don't like most about my new project is waiting for paint to dry. patience can withstand so much until your brain starts melting out of your ears. so i draw on the workshop table at school while i wait to apply the second coat, the third coat, and so on so forth.

p.s. narwhals are my new #2 favorite animals. cats stay #1 for life.

my progression

i like to believe that people will eventually grow up. you know, learning humility from their mistakes and such. i know i don't necessarily like all the same things i did three years ago. as i was drawing this a couple days ago, i had an idea-- i facebook searched every bully i could think of that i had elementary school through high school and sent friend requests. i'm curious to see what happens.
